U2 added "Numb" to their live setlists after resuming their Zoo TV Tour in May 1993. The song was released as a VHS single, featuring a music video directed by Kevin Godley, but it did not attain widespread commercial success. While recording Zooropa, the band transformed the song with mixing assistance from co- producer Flood, the addition of keyboards and samples by co-producer Brian Eno, and the addition of The Edge's monotone vocals. "Numb" originated as a discarded song from the Achtung Baby recording sessions called "Down All the Days". U2 lead vocalist Bono and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. The noisy composition and lyrical concept for "Numb" were inspired by the theme of sensory overload, which had prominently been incorporated into the Zoo TV Tour. The song features a monotonous mantra of "don't" commands spoken by guitarist The Edge amidst a backdrop of various sound effects and samples. It is the third track from their 1993 album Zooropa and was released in June 1993 as the album's first single. The album was preceded by Three, a three song E.P with different recordings of Out of Control and Stories For Boys as well as a song called Boy/Girl. It became a hit on college radio and established a buzz surrounding the group’s debut. The Singles released from the album were A Day Without Me and I Will Follow that peaked at 20 on the mainstream rock charts. With a Dark undertone mixed with ups and downs in pace along with Bono’s harmony makes this album a fine debut. Any young aspiring band would be proud to put down a song of any calibre that is on this album. With highs and lows from slow to paced, Bono and the boys forge a friendship with their sound. This is an immature U2 sound but yet you know what they develop in to. Boy tends to run well with a gorgeous feel and movement to each track. Boy is U2’s Debut album and was released in October 20 th 1980 the album was produced by Steve Lillywhite and recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, after 7 months in the studio between March and September it was then released by Island Records.
